Hey guys, I’ve decided I need a change. This blog is now an archive and my new blog can be found here
leia, rebel princess, total badass, queen of my heart
You know some of us really depressed people who don’t always have a reason to get out of bed? Even if we do, it’s still the hardest shit in the world. What do some of us use? Games. Video games help some of us connect and forget our depression.
For a long time Pokemon has been something to help me feel better. I’ve always dreamed of being a Pokemon Trainer, ever since I was a child. As an adult, I hoped someday we’d be able to have a Virtual Reality of sorts where I could SOMEWHAT live that old dream. I would actually LEAVE MY HOUSE. I would JUMP out of bed at the idea of this. Even on my worst days I’d find the strength to GET UP and GO OUTSIDE.
I’m insectaphobic and arachnophobia and all kinds of phobic for any kind of bugs, creepy-crawlies and flying exoskeleton things. I have had them FOREVER. But I’d STILL be willing to BRAVE that, just at a small chance to live in a world I have loved to escape to since I was a CHILD.
This new thing? Pokemon GO? This is going to be one of the best things that ever happened to me…and I WILL spend money on it. I WILL pay the money to have this. Why? Because it’s a step to helping me get better. It’s a step to help me feel better. I will want to go outside and explore and brave the world and battle my depression and anxieties, all so I can have a small glimpse into the dream my little heart had, and still has.
This is more than just a cool new game or a step towards V.R.
This is a step for me to feel like I’m in a world where I have always run to for joy.
This is a step to me feeling joy, not fear, in the outside world.
I CAN NOT WAIT FOR POKEMON GO.

So everyone’s making jokes and all about the lengths they will go to catch a specific wild Pokemon once Go comes out. And while they are all funny, I want you guys to think about something potentially amazing.
Imagine you’re at a convention, could be something small and local or one of the big events like Comic Con. You’re walking around the convention floor, maybe you bought some stuff, maybe you’re on your way to an event. Nothing too out of the ordinary happening right now…
Suddenly, your phone vibrates. You go to check it, not noticing almost everyone else around you checking their phones as well. You see that a countdown in Pokemon Go started, an event is starting. The hall goes quiet.
You and everyone around you go into the app.
